Americus

Americus is just down the road from The Orchard, where Myrick had a cross country race. In the country around the town, we saw some nice farmhouses, horses and cattle, and soybean fields. The town itself was pretty quiet, with the roads mostly paved except for a section of Broadway.

We saw a park, a school, churches, and a soybean field right in the middle of town for some reason. The homes were modest and a mix of decrepit and well-maintained. The town also had a post office, Elegant Oaks Furniture, restaurants, and a library.

In the park pavilion, there's a plaque memorializing three high school students who died in September of 2010. It made us sad to see, but also glad that their community valued them and still remembers them.
