Pilsen

We almost didn't go to Pilsen, since we weren't sure it was still a town. Fortunately, we looked for it anyway. If we hadn't, we wouldn't have seen the birthplace of Father Emil Kapaun, a hero of the Korean Conflict!

At the edge of town, we saw an abandoned home in ruins, surrounded by topped Osage Orange fenceposts. There's also a church, a cemetery, and an old grade school that's been transformed into a community center. In general, it's a nice little town, with well-maintained homes.

The primary industry seems to be Fr. Kapaun. The church has "Fr. Kapaun, pray for us!" on a sign out front. At the cemetery, he gets equal billing with St. John Nepomucene of Prague, which is understandable -- after all, Emil was a local boy and Medal of Honor recipient. There's also a movement afoot to canonize him. In addition to the Home of Fr. Kapaun, there's also a gift shop. (We didn't go in, but I suspect that it is stocked mostly with Fr. Kapaun swag.)
